This class, in particular, has highlighted some topics I wasn’t aware of before, like systems theory and the idea of ‘active hope’. If there’s one takeaway that I believe is most important, however… it would be political activism.

There was an article we read a while ago about how policy influences everything around us. The food we eat, the clothes we wear, the schools we attend, and the cars we drive- all of it is somehow controlled by public policy. It’s very easy to let policy rule our lives, but we must remember that ‘active hope’ also includes taking an active role in shaping said policy to better our world and turn away from the negative apocalyptic-like future of the Anthropocene.

“Human Beingness” is too massive of a topic for my brain to digest at this point, especially at 11:50 at night. But the thing I can absorb and hopefully take with me for the rest of my life from this class is that I must do my part here. Voting for environmentally sound alternatives in our American society is a start. Perhaps I can even become more politically active and spread these concepts of systems theory, and interconnectedness. We are all one. I suppose I’ve gotten inspiration from the call-your-representative project. We should start treating the world as our responsibility, and the path to beginning that is through policy.

I’ve learned quite a bit over the entirety of this quarter.
