Please click here to submit your nominations for the 2009 graduating class awards. You must submit your nominations by January 31, 2009.
Nominations are requested for the awards, described below, that are bestowed annually by each graduating class. After the nominations are tallied by the Academic Affairs Office, you will be asked to complete a final ballot in late February.
Ellen Griep Award
This award was established by the class of 1983 with the intent that subsequent classes honor a classmate who has provided inspiration to his or her peers, staff, and faculty by successfully managing both the academic demands of medical education and continued excellence in other endeavors in his or her life. This award carries with it a $250.00 monetary award for personal use.
Margaret S. Anderson Award
This award was established by the graduating class of 1982 to honor a deserving staff or faculty member who has shown exceptional concern for, and support of, medical students. This award carries with it a $250.00 monetary award for personal use. Previous award recipients are ineligible for further consideration and include the following current UW faculty/staff: Ms. Michelle Fleming, Ms. Mary Lambeth, Ms. Diane Noecker, Mr. Daniel Olson, Ms. Constance Lamb, Drs. Michael Copass, Hugh Foy, Erika Goldstein, Daniel Hunt, Michael Laskowski, Carol MacLaren, Thomas McCormick, Terry Mengert, Douglas Paauw, Paul Ramsey, Timothy Pohlman, John Sheffield, and Sherilyn Smith.
Distinguished Teacher Awards
These awards recognize TWO (2) clinical faculty members and ONE basic science faculty member who you feel have been excellent teachers. This honor carries with it a $5,000 monetary award for classroom and teaching use. The following faculty have received this award four times and are now recognized as Teachers Superior in Perpetuity. As such, they are ineligible for further consideration: Drs. Michael Copass, Erika Goldstein, Brian Goodell, Daniel Graney, Steven McGee, Terry Mengert, Douglas Paauw, Thomas Preston, William O. Robertson, Cornelius Rosse, Micheal Ryan, David Saunders, John Sheffield, and Fred Silverstein.
WWAMI Distinguished Teacher Award
This award honors a faculty member in the WWAMI region who has played an important role in your education. This award is intended to include teachers involved in all types of WWAMI education, including but not limited to R/UOP, preceptorships, basic science courses (all first-year sites), clerkships, and electives. The three other teaching awards bestowed by each graduating class are based on the number of votes received from the graduating class. You can see why an outstanding R/UOP preceptor, first-year teacher in Anchorage, or a clerkship director in Montana who only sees only six students each year is unlikely to be selected. This award, however, selects a teacher based on your brief written assesment of the quality of teaching, and identifies a deserving WWAMI faculty member who has had a significant impact, even though he/she may teach relatively few students during an academic year. This honor carries with it a $5,000 monetary award for classroom and teaching use.
