Introducing a book about the Union Bay Natural Area (Montlake Fill) which is a page-turner! Birder and naturalist Connie Sidles writes with lively language, humor, and a deeply philosophical understanding about a natural place in the city which holds great meaning for her and all of us who know it. For those who have not yet explored the Fill, this book is a marvelous entry point.

Marvels of Modernism Photography Exhibit

The Cultural Landscape Foundation’s Landslide program works to draw attention to threatened American landscapes with the goal of increasing appreciation and support for preservation. Seattle Pacific Science Center’s entry courtyard designed by Minoru Yamasaki is one of the featured landscapes.
Posters featuring Marvels of Modernism will be on exhibit in the Library for the month of October.

New Hours for Fall

Starting after Labor Day the Library will have reduced hours on Mondays, but will open again on Saturdays.
The new open hours are:

Monday 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Tuesday-Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm
Saturday 9:00am – 3:00pm

The reduction in hours is the result of budget cuts and will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.

Seeds for sale

The Hardy Plant Society of Washington has generously donated perennial plant seed packets available for purchase for only $1.00 a piece. Salvia patens ‘Lavender Lady’, Euphorbia characias ssp wulfenii, Chionochloa rubra are just a few examples of the unusual varieties available.

Art Exhibit: Shirley Sidell

FREE public reception September 14th from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.
View enhanced images from local artist Shirley Sidell, including images from the Elisabeth Carey Miller Botanical Garden and fern images from her garden. In addition to the prints, many of the images are available on 5×7 note cards, with matching envelopes. Each print is an original and can be used as is or framed.

Summer Hours 2009

Starting July 4 the Library will be closed on Saturdays through the month of August. Saturday hours will resume September 12.

Summer Hours:

Monday: 9:00am – 8:pm
Tuesday-Friday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
