PIC (Primary Infection Clinic) Study A natural history (observational) study which looks closely at the effects of HIV infection on the immune system in newly infected participants, and then follows them over time. Eligibility Currently we are focusing our efforts on those who are most recently infected, typically people who are within 30 days of the onset of symptoms of acute HIV infection . Study Procedures Study visits happen every week for the first month, once a month for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th month, then roughly every other month for the rest of the first year. After the first year, study participants are seen twice a year. Blood work including viral load and CD4+ cell counts are followed, as are any medications and physical symptoms. Participants may also have the choice to participate in one or more of several optional procedures, some of which may include monetary compensation.
