Professor Fihn is a general internist with interests in quality of care particularly in the outpatient setting and in health measurement. He also serves as Director of the Northwest VA Health Services Research and Development Center of Excellence at VA Puget Sound Health Care System and as Head of the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine. He co-directs the GIM/HSR&D fellowship program at the VAPSHCS.

Quality of care particularly in the outpatient setting and in health measurement. Specific clinical topics include heart disease, COPD, UTI, anticoagulation.

Secondary analyses of a large, longtitudinal dataset containing information on over 30,000 primary care patients from 7 VA medical centers.
Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI), Ischemic Heart Disease Coordinating Center
