Health Promotion Research Center

The University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center (UW HPRC) participates in national networks established by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These networks focus on community research in specific areas of public health. The CDC selects participating centers of each network during a competitive review process.

Current Networks

Alliance for Reducing Cancer, Northwest (ARC NW)

ARC NW is a regional collaboration at the UW Health Promotion Research Center that contributes to the CDC’s Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN). Our goal is to reduce the burden of cancer, particularly for low-income and/or underserved populations who are more likely to experience health disparities.

Managing Epilepsy Well (MEW) Network

Participating MEW network centers, including the UW Health Promotion Research Center, work together to promote epilepsy self-management research and improve the quality of life for people with epilepsy.

Healthy Brain Research Network (HBRN)

This network focused on two growing public health challenges — promoting cognitive health and addressing the needs of increasing numbers of older Americans living with cognitive impairment.

HAN researchers identified and addressed health promotion needs for healthy aging, with particular focus on populations that bear a disproportionate burden of illness and disease.
