Health Promotion Research Center

Participation Dates: Sept. 30, 2002 – Sept. 29, 2024

The University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center (UW HPRC) is one of eight collaborating centers of the national Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) and contributes to the network through the Alliance for Reducing Cancer, Northwest (ARC NW). The UW Health Promotion Research Center is also one of the initial members of the national network.

Our collaborative purpose is to strengthen the translation of effective interventions into practice through research, training, and technical assistance using established organizational infrastructure, strong community relationships, and cross-center projects. ARC NW includes partners from research, health care, and community organizations.

Together, we emphasize effectiveness, dissemination, and implementation research in the areas of cancer screening, physical activity, and vaccine-preventable cancers.

Mission

To build relationships between researchers and community partners, conduct cancer-related research, and translate research into community practice.

Goals

Facilitate and conduct community-based cancer prevention and control research that:

  • Will build upon existing knowledge.
  • Addresses critical gaps in the Guide to Community Preventive Services and other published literature.
  • Leads to the adoption, implementation, and dissemination of successful programs in communities.
