Paul Farley
Research Coordinator
Hey! I'm Paul Farley. I serve as an assistant to the principal
investigator of the Seattle HPTU, Connie Celum. In this capacity I handle a
lot of the routine paperwork that is associated with running a research unit
at a university.
I've been doing this kind of work since I graduated from the University of
Notre Dame a long time ago, though in support of several different research
groups. In the beginning, the research groups were focussed on archaeology,
first with Northwestern University (Hopewell mound builders in Illinois),
then with the University of Oklahoma (Caddoan mound builders on the Arkansas
border), and finally with the University of Colorado (Anasazi villages along
the Dolores River).
Then I popped up a level as an executive assistant to the Vice President for
Research at the University of Wyoming. I enjoyed this work, but I was a
level removed from the folks who were actually doing the research and I
decided that it was more fun to be involved directly in the research itself.
So I hopped back down to take a position with the U.S. National Snow and
Ice Data Center (NSIDC) at the University of Colorado.
My personal interests include poultry husbandry and envelopes that were
mailed on board the battleship U.S.S. Wyoming. I can expound on either of
these subjects at great length if you have the patience to listen!
My bachelor's degree is in biology (aquatic ecology), but I discovered
that
I have an exceptionally high tolerance for organizational and administrative
detail and most of my jobs have exploited this latter aspect of my
personality. I enjoy my work!
