CCPI is dedicated to ending economic sanctions imposed on Iraq by the members of the United Nations Security Council. According to UNICEF, since their implementaion in 1990, they have contributed to the deaths of half a million children under-five and continue to contribute to 'excess' deaths of over 5,000 children per month. The sanctions have been widely condemned as a form of warfare, a 'weapon of mass destruction', directed against the civilian population. Nonetheless, sanctions are being sustained at the insistence of the U.S. government. For the sake of the Iraqi people, and human rights everywhere the sanctions must be lifted with utmost urgency.

Students for a Free Tibet
University of Washington

Students for a Free Tibet is a national organization comprised of student activists throughout North America. The UW chapter of Students For a Free Tibet was founded in response to Ven. Palden Gyatsola's visit to our campus on June 26th, 1996. That special evening, he expressed Tibet's critical need for global awareness of its plight. This awareness must start with the youth of today. Hence, it is a goal to make our fellow students more aware of Tibet's situation and to prevent the elimination of Tibet's unique culture from the Chinese rulers.
