In 1978, the University of Washington Health Sciences Administration (HSA) and the six University of Washington Health Sciences Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Community Medicine, and Social Work established the Health Sciences Center Minority Students Program. In 2003, HSC-MSP became a division of the University of Washington's Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity, strengthening its ability to assist the Health Sciences schools and programs in fulfilling their goals of diversifying the health care workforce. Today, while the collaborations continue, HSCMSP is working with students interested in pursing professional programs.

Collaboration Includes:

  • Introducing students to advisors and programs specific to their professional school area of interest
  • Making available listings of, and promoting participation in internal/external clinical and biomedical internship opportunities
  • Assisting with the professional school/program application process
  • Connecting students with individuals nationally through active membership in the National Association of Medical Minority Educators (NAMME) Association.
  • Workshops on writing the professional school personal statement, secondary essays, and interviewing
  • Social events
