The Extended MPH Degree Program (EXDP) at the University of Washington offers working professionals the opportunity to expand their knowledge in public health and health services while continuing their careers through several program options:

Master in Public Health (MPH):
a partial-distance program designed specifically for public, community, and environmental health professionals

a graduate-level certificate designed for public, community, and environmental health professionals who may not be able to make a commitment to a full degree program

elective courses that are available to students who are not enrolled in the Degree or Certificate Programs.

Tom Wickizer: Spring 2009 Distinguished Faculty Lecture

Tom Wickizer, UW Professor of Health Services, delivered the School of Public Health's Spring 2009 Distinguished Faculty Lecture: Reflections on 10 years of Collaborative Research to Improve Health and Health Care for Injured Workers in Washington State. The School's Occupational Epidemiology and Health Outcomes Program and the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I), which runs the state's workers' compensation program, have worked together for many years to reduce the time workers lose because of injury. Tom has played a leading role in this partnership, conducting applied studies and evaluating pilot programs designed to reduce worker disability.

Faculty Profile

Margaret McKenna

As an evaluation program manager for the University of Washington's Northwest Institute for Children and Families, McKenna evaluates programs that help struggling families grow and thrive. She helps public and private agencies that provide human service programs clarify their goals and measure the successes of their programs. "I think it is essential that any intervention needs to be evaluated so that programs can continue and funders will provide grants for them," Maggie says. "It is a service to the community."
