Preparing to Graduate
In the quarter prior to your final quarter, you must contact the EXDP program office (uwedp@u.washington.edu) to schedule a review of your progress toward graduation and address any issues that might prevent you from graduating.
At the beginning of the final quarter, students who expect to graduate, must submit a "Request to Graduate" to the UW Graduate School.
If you wait too long to submit the request, you will be charged a substantial late fee. At some point near the end of each quarter, you will be unable to request graduation until the following quarter (even if you pay the late fees).
The UW Graduate School and the EXDP Program staff will evaluate your request and notify you of any university or program requirements (other than final thesis or project work) that would prevent you from graduating.

At the beginning of your final quarter, to ensure that the UW Grad School will allow you to graduate that quarter, you must:
- Be registered for at least 2 credits
- Submit a Request to Graduate
When you are finished, you must have your Thesis or Project checked to make sure that the format meets UW and EXDP program requirements.
- Thesis: Follow the instructions for sending your thesis for Preliminary format check in the front section of the UW Thesis style manual.
Instructions (pages 3 and 9) - Project: Send a copy of your Project and the Executive Summary to the EXDP program office (uwedp@u.washington.edu) for format review.
Once your committee has given final approval that your project or thesis is ready for final formatting and submission, you must notify the EXDP program so they can coordinate with your committee.
Send a notification email cc'ing your committee members to: uwedp@u.washington.edu
The email should also include the following:
- Name, email and phone number for each of the final committee members.
- Final Title of your project or thesis
Thesis students will need to arrange to have their thesis face page signed by each committee member before final copies can be made for submission to the Grad School and EXDP program.
All MPH degree students are required to submit an unbound copy of the final version of their Thesis or Project and Executive Summary to the EXDP program office. To be eligible to graduate, this must be received by the last day of the quarter.
For Thesis students, typically the last step required for graduation is to submit their final Thesis to the UW Graduate School and pay the binding fees. To be eligible to graduate, this must be received by the last day of the quarter. (Fees should be paid at least 1 week in advance so they will have been credited by the last day of the quarter.)
- Follow the instructions for final submission and submission by mail in the front section of the UW Thesis style manual.
