Practicum

Students in the Certificate and MPH degree programs are required to complete a practicum experience in an organization, agency, or community that provides planning or services relevant to public health.

All students are required to undergo HIPAA training before registering for practicum credits. EXDP students must contact the EXDP program office to receive their authorization code and instructions for the HIPAA online training.

Students in the EXDP MPH degree program who have at least 3 years of comparable experience may be eligible to waive the practicum requirement. If the practicum requirement is waived, students will need to complete elective credits in lieu of the practicum.

EXDP program students generally follow the same practicum process as all MPH students with one exception.

One Major Exception for EXDP Students:
All paperwork, agreements and communications pertaining to the practicum must be routed through the EXDP program office (uwedp@u.washington.edu) instead of through the SPHCM practicum office.
