Sheridan is a UW student in both the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health. In 2009, a non-governmental organization he formed, Salud Juntos, and the Honduran Ministry of Health co-founded a community hypertension management group in the small Honduran town of Punta Ocote. At this seminar he will present the findings from an evaluation he conducted of the effectiveness of this community group. The evaluation draws on 30 continuous months of data from more than 100 hypertensive patients. Results from this evaluation demonstrate the utility of community-level resource-pooling, simple treatment protocols, and community health workers in the lowering of blood pressure and increase of access to care.
