Areas of Emphasis

Students are required to complete an "area of emphasis" taking a minimum of five courses or 15 credits in specialized theory or methods courses.

Students may choose one of the defined areas, or they may design an area of emphasis of their own with courses selected in conjunction with his/her mentor, based on past course work, experience, proposed dissertation topic, and career goals.

 



AREA OF EMPHASIS:

Global Health

This area of emphasis provides students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the major challenges facing international health, the policies and interventions being marshaled to meet those challenges, and the variety of research methods being used to generate new knowledge in this area.

Prerequisites:

3 quarter-courses in theory or essential concepts of a social science (e.g., anthropology, economics, sociology, psychology) or an approved physical science (e.g., biology, toxicology).
