FULBRIGHT OFFERS AWARDS IN 140 COUNTRIES

The Fulbright Scholar Program is offering lecturing/research awards in some 140 countries for the 2002-2003 academic year. Opportunities are available not only for college and university faculty and administrators, but also for professionals from business and government, as well as artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. Traditional Fulbright awards are available from two months to an academic year or longer.

A new short-term grants program the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program offers two-to-six-week grants in a variety of disciplines and fields. While foreign language skills are needed in some countries, most Fulbright lecturing assignments are in English. Some 80 percent of the awards are for lecturing.

Fulbright Scholar Opportunities in American History
The 2002-03 Fulbright scholar programs in East and Southeast Asia offer many opportunities for teaching for specialists in American history. Programs with a particular interest include: China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The China program includes a Distinguished Lectureship in American foreign policy. The grant packages for Japan and China are particularly generous. Lecturing awards in China may include a special supplement to bring the level of a grant nearer to a salary. Applicants must: (a) be U.S. citizens (permanent residents are not eligible); (b) have a Ph.D.; (c) have a minimum of five years of teaching/professional experience.
