Grant for History of Botany Research

Nominations are invited for the 2002 Lawrence Memorial Award, which honors the memory of George H.M. Lawrence, the founding director of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation. The $2,000 award supports travels for Doctoral Dissertation research in systematic botany or horticulture, or the history of the plant sciences, including literature and exploration.

Major professors can nominate outstanding doctoral students who have achieved official candidacy. The Committee will not entertain direct applications. A student who wishes to be considered should arrange for nomination by his/her major professor; this may take the form of a cover letter which covers supporting materials prepared by the nominee.

Supporting materials should describe the candidate's program, and how it would benefit from the award. Letters of nomination and supporting materials, including seconding letters, should be received by the Committee no later than 1 May 2002. Direct letters to:
