Baskent University is accepting applications for teaching positions in the Department of American Culture and Literature for the 2001-2002 academic year. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in English, American History, American/Cultural Studies, or related fields with a major focus on historical themes and processes. Initial contract is for 10 months and is renewable on a 12-month yearly basis on mutual agreement of parties.

Salary is $1100 per month with Ph.D., paid in Turkish lira. (Applications from A.B.Ds will be considered, but at a lower salary.) The university provides a housing allowance in addition to the monthly salary. Roundtrip air-fare at beginning and termination of contract is also provided. While the salary seems low by US standards, the combined compensation package provides comfortable middle-class living inside Turkey.
