Jack Williamson Visiting Endowed Chair in Science and the Humanities

Eastern New Mexico University invites applications and nominations for the Jack Williamson Endowed Chair in Science and the Humanities. We seek a dynamic candidate who demonstrates the potential to make a significant contribution to the teaching mission of ENMU in an academic area of science and/or the humanities, or in an interdisciplinary field within science or the humanities. By addressing the University and community on their own work, the successful candidate will facilitate discussion and reflection on the interactions among the sciences and the humanities as an important cultural heritage and as a 21st century strategy for enhancing American culture and society.

The appointment is for the one semester (preferably Spring, 2002) during which the chairholder will reside on the main campus, teach one class, conduct a colloquium, and present two public lectures. Eastern New Mexico University is a public comprehensive university with a parent campus in Portales, a two-year branch in Roswell, an educational center in Ruidoso and a fall 2000 headcount enrollment of 6,600. The student body is highly diverse, coming from all fifty states and international locations, as well. ENMU is centrally located in the southwest with all its cultural and research opportunities. Portales, a city of 12,000, is located in a valley near the Texas border and only 220 miles from Albuquerque and Santa Fe, 110 miles from Amarillo and Lubbock. Candidates should hold a terminal degree appropriate for the discipline.
