The Department of History, University of Maryland, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor rank in the history of technology. This appointment will enhance the department's undergraduate offerings in the history of technology; the university's programs in science, technology, and society (STS); and its honors Gemstone program on the social dimensions of technological innovation. The appointment will also augment the department's graduate level teaching and research in history of technology, business history, and material culture. Of particular interest are candidates whose primary research fields are outside of the United States and who focus on pre-industrial history. A firm commitment to undergraduate teaching and the capacity to carry out scholarly research and publication of the highest quality will be required.
