Social Science History Association
Annual Meeting
November 15-18, 2001,
Chicago, IL
The Women/Gender Network of the Social Science History Association
is soliciting complete panels and individual papers for possible presentation
at the 2001 meeting of SSHA.
FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: Network Representatives for 2001: Kathleen
Jones (kjwj@vt.edu), and Patricia Turner (prt2@lehigh.edu) The SSHA Women/Gender
Page (below).
CONFERENCE THEME The theme set for next year's conference is "Quantitative
and Qualitative Approaches to Social Science History." We welcome the
submission of thematic sessions that, as the general call for papers puts
it, consider the "role of human agency in quantitative historical research."
NETWORK RECOMMENDATIONS Participants at this year's network meeting
recommended that the representatives also solicit sessions on the following
topics:
* gender and the welfare state
* intersections (of race, class, gender; of family history and women's
history; etc.) * women in civil society
* gender and world history
* citizens and subjects
* gender and space
* masculinities
* life histories and biographies
This is not an exclusive list; those interested in proposing other topics
are encouraged to do so.
ALTERNATIVE FORMATS In addition to traditional paper presentations
and book sessions, we are inviting network participants to consider innovative
session structures. Network members suggested workshops, panels that consisted
of working papers, and sessions devoted to discussions of readings.
PANEL DIVERSITY ENCOURAGED The network organizers want to encourage
panel proposals that provide comparative perspectives across time and
national boundaries, that reflect the multi-disciplinary make-up of SSHA,
and that point to the intersection of gender and race/ethnicity/class/age/disability.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION The deadline for submissions is February
1, 2001.
The women/gender network representatives have created a Bulletin Board
for individuals to post information about papers looking for panels and
panels looking for papers, discussants, and chairs. The address: http://www2.cyber.vt.edu/cgi-bin/netforum/SHHA/a/1
Submit complete panels, single papers, or poster proposals directly to
the network through the online submission process on the SSHA Annual Meeting
home page http://www.ipums.umn.edu/~ssha.
The network representatives and program co-chairs are using a rolling
acceptance system for complete panels, so it is best to submit your proposals
early.
