What happens for students enrolled in HSTS and their parents?

Student Involvement ~ All Students:

All HSTS students will participate in an individualized follow-up meeting and will complete a total of five questionnaires, over the course of their 8th grade and freshman years.

Student Involvement ~ Intervention Group Only:

Students who are randomly assigned to the Intervention Group will participate in the HSTS Student Intervention, which is a school-based program that is designed to enable students to improve their school performance, decrease or avoid drug involvement, and enhance personal control and self-esteem.  Please click here for a description of the intervention’s components.

Parent Involvement ~ All Parents:

Parents of all participating students (in both the intervention and control groups) will be asked to complete three parent questionnaires, over the course of their children’s 8th and 9th grade years.

Parent Involvement ~ Intervention Group Only:

Also, parents of students assigned to the intervention group will be invited to participate in a parent education, support, and skills training program, which goes hand-in-hand with the student intervention.  Please click here for a description of the intervention’s components.
