Starve at a Conference? Nah!By Laura Larsson, HAS Newsletter Editor, and Colleagues+ September 2003 IntroductionThe question of what foods to take with you to a conference or annual meeting is a very good one because so much of the food you get at conferences is both expensive and, unless you are careful in what you select, not really all that nutritious. Deciding what foods to bring with you can be helped by getting the advice of long-time conference attendees - and that is just what this article does. More than forty-three public health practitioners provided suggestions and advice on their favorite portable foods and drink. Good PracticesA few conference attendees never travel far without at least a few snacks and depending on the conference location, agenda, (and hotel prices!) may expect to eat breakfast or dinner in their rooms as well. If your per diem allowance is very low, and if you would rather have one decent meal in a restaurant per day than try to eat out within that slim allowance, then bringing your own food is a necessity.
