You would expect this site to be comprehensive and it looks very good. Get Facts, FAQs, Plans and Guidelines and more on topics such as Anthrax, Smallpox, Radiological Emergencies, Biological Agents and Chemical Agents. Not only will you find information on Agents and Threats but you will also find a variety of topics for the media, lab and health professionals and training. For those speaking Spanish, get some material in that language.

"The National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) is an initiative that promotes the use of data and information system standards to advance the development of efficient, integrated, and interoperable surveillance systems at federal, state and local levels.

This broad initiative is designed to:

  • facilitate the electronic transfer of appropriate information from clinical information systems in the health care industry to public health departments
  • reduce provider burden in the provision of information
  • enhance both the timeliness and quality of information provided

Surveillance Systems collect and monitor data for disease trends and/or outbreaks so that public health personnel can protect the nation's health." (home page)

Concerned with safety. Get data models and vocabularies, the NEDSS architecture and many links. Grants and funding resources are available too. A glossary of terms is provided.

Put up jointly by the CDC and the Federal Working Group on Youth Violence, the site serves up statistics, plans of action and contacts for parents, teachers and public health professionals, with a separate set of pages for teenagers located at: http://www.safeyouth.org/teens/index.htm. Look also for a calendar of events, funding information, related organizations, a FAQ and publications. They've got a really long list of annotated topics such as anger management, movie voilence, community-based programs and more.
