Preparing for the Return of SARS: Are we ready? (Webcast)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sept. 23 and 30 will Webcast two training programs on severe acute respiratory syndrome for health care workers and public health personnel. There is some concern that SARS will return; this Webcast is an effort to provide information on SARS to health care workers and public health practitioners who might see the disease. Meet the speakers and get their PowerPoint slides. View the questions asked by the audience and get the programs and fact sheets. The Webcasts will be archived at this site for later viewing.

Individual Preparedness and Response to Chemical, Radiological, Nuclear, and Biological Terrorist Attacks (RAND Report)

With this RAND report, individuals can take simple steps to protect themselves in a terrorism attack. The report
summarizes the study which includes a quick guide and fold-out reference card listing key steps individuals subjected to chemical, radiological, nuclear and biological attacks should take. For example, they include quickly finding clean air in the event of a chemical attack, avoiding inhaled dust following a radiological attack and radioactive fallout from a nuclear attack, and getting medical aid and minimizing further exposure to biological agents.

The report issued today was prepared by RAND's Public Safety and Justice unit, which conducts a wide array of research covering law enforcement, terrorism preparedness, immigration, emergency response and management, sentencing and corrections policy, firearms, community violence, and drug policy and substance abuse.

Other authors of the report are David E. Mosher, Lois M. Davis and David R. Howell, all of RAND.
