Tents & Canopies Policy
The UW is required to meet Seattle Fire Department safety and fire guidelines for any tent & canopy use on campus. Tents larger than 200 square feet and canopies larger than 400 square feet require a review, an inspection and permit approval prior to use. Approval is granted by either the Environmental Health and Safety Office or the Seattle Fire Department.
HUB Event Services will work closely with you and any off-campus tent & canopy rental companies to ensure compliance with safety and fire guidelines.
What this means to UW Customers
The University of Washington, via EH&S, has an approved, single, annual permit from the Seattle Fire Department for tent and canopy usage by the UW community on campus. Any HUB Lawn event reserved and coordinated by a UW organization that requires tent or canopy approval must request and receive permit approval from Environmental Health & Safety.
Your approved Tent/Canopy permit must be submitted to HUB Event Services by the deadline indicated to you on your HUB reservation confirmation. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of your proposed event.
What this means to Off-Campus Customers
Any HUB Lawn event reserved and coordinated by an off-campus entity that requires tent or canopy approval must request and receive permit approval directly from the Seattle Fire Department.
Your approved Tent/Canopy permit must be submitted to HUB Event Services by the deadline indicated to you on your HUB reservation confirmation. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of your proposed event.
