HUB Lawn Events

The HUB Lawn is suitable for various outdoor major events and smaller activities. Previous major events on the lawn include Fall and Spring Fling, Student Organization Fairs, Lawnapalooza, cultural events and rallies. Most commonly, student organizations can be found tabling on the HUB Lawn.

HUB Lawn Event Guidelines

In addition to policies already mentioned, HUB Lawn events must follow these additional guidelines:

OFF-CAMPUS USE: Off-campus groups may not use the HUB Lawn during the academic year. However, summer use of the HUB Lawn may be approved in association with approved UW conference events.

EVENT PLANNING MEETING: An EPM with an Event Coordinator is required and must be held at least four (4) weeks prior to your event, or earlier, to meet University timelines and to address event details and costs.

SOUND AMPLIFICATION: Sound amplification is strictly monitored and limited for all events because the HUB Lawn is situated between many academic and library buildings. Amplification needs must be addressed at the EPM.

TENTS & CANOPIES: The use of tents or canopies on the HUB Lawn is quite common. Any use of tents larger than 200 square feet (20' x 20') or canopies larger than 400 square feet (40' x 40') must receive permit approval from the UW Environmental Health and Safety Office or the Seattle Fire Department. Please review the Tents & Canopies Policy for details.

STAKES: Objects that penetrate the ground are generally not allowed in order to protect both the lawn and the underground irrigation lines. Staking needs must be addressed with HUB Event Services at your scheduled EPM.

ELECTRICITY & EQUIPMENT: Electrical and technical needs for HUB Lawn events are evaluated on case-by-case basis. Electricity and technical equipment needs must be addressed with HUB Event Services at your scheduled EPM.

RENTAL COSTS: Depending on the size, scope and nature of your HUB Lawn event your group may need to be prepared to pay rental fees in advance - from $500 - $2500. Never assume rental costs; always refer to an official written estimate from our office.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: It is wise to consider alternate locations in case of adverse weather conditions. The most common backup option is to rent a meeting or event space in the HUB or to arrange for tents or canopies. HUB sound equipment is not available when there is a possibility of rain.

TABLING: RSOs are encouraged to contact the Resource Center for tables and tents. Student organizations wishing to conduct fundraisers on the HUB Lawn must get a fundraising permit from their adviser in the Student Activities Office. Under no circumstances is any entity allowed to conduct commercial or recruiting activities on the HUB Lawn.
