The purpose of this project is to utilize testing sequences developed from
facet-based instruction
to assist teachers and students prepare for state-wide
assessments in Science and Mathematics. The compulsory state-wide
assessments program, now under development, will be a conventional "test
day" assessment. The results will be used both to evaluate individual
students and to evaluate district programs. We are developing
DIAGNOSER type assessments
that will be resident on the World Wide Web here. The DIAGNOSER material mirrors the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs). Students who access the programs prior to testing will receive individualized diagnoses and instruction geared to their particular understandings. Teachers whose students use the program will receive a summary of student diagnoses and suggested in-class or homework projects to remedy problematical ideas present in the teacher's classes.
It is hoped that this project will be transferable to other states who
have assessment programs similar to the State of Washington.
The project began in July 1999 and will continue through 2003.
This project is funded by the National Science Foundation.
It is being conducted in co-operation with several school districts, who
are providing the necessary teacher expertise, the Washington State Office
of the, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and
Talaria Inc .
