Conference Rationale
Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy has been published as an independent journal since 1986; Volume 25 will appear in 2010. The Hypatia Editors, the Local Editorial Advisors, and the Simpson Center for the Humanities at the University of Washington are hosting a conference in October 2009 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the journal and to explore the future of feminist philosophy as it has taken shape across a range of disciplines. This is an opportunity to honor and to build on the accomplishments of Hypatia, and also to recognize the rich traditions of feminist scholarship that flourish at the University of Washington where the editorial office is currently based. Conference Updates and Information
Final program
The final program is now available; see the program webpage or follow these links for a PDF of the full program schedule or a program overview.
Two conference events are free and open to the public: the keynote panel, “Feminist Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Perspective,” and a Gala Reception that follows immediately after the panel on Friday evening (October 23). The panel begins at 5:30 (Kane Hall 220), and the reception will be hosted in the Walker-Ames room (Kane Hall 225) at 6:30. All other conference sessions require registration. Please follow this link for the public events flyer.
The conference as a whole opens at 5:00 on Thursday evening (October 22) with a keynote panel on the founding and formation of Hypatia, and closes on Saturday evening (October 24) with the conference banquet. Conference sessions begin at 9:00 am and run all day on Friday and Saturday (October 23, 24); they include five keynote panels (in addition to the opening panel), and some 20 contributed paper and panel sessions. For highlights and logistical details, see the program webpage.
The Fall 2009 meeting of the Pacific Division of the Society for Women in Philosophy will be held in conjunction with the Hypatia 25th anniversary conference. The PSWIP program is included in the program schedule. See also the PSWIP website: http://www.csus.edu/org/pswip/.
Lunch Workshops
Two lunch-time workshops are planned for Friday and Saturday (October 23 and 24), 12:30-1:30. Registration for these lunches closed on October 15th.
Friday Hosted Lunch:
A number of senior colleagues and keynote panelists have agreed to host lunch table groups of 6 or 7 for those who are current or recent graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or otherwise new to the field of feminist philosophy.
Saturday Equity Workshop:
Christina Bellon and Alison Wylie will convene a lunch-time workshop on equity issues for women in philosophy on Saturday. The goal of this workshop is to share news of recent equity initiatives in philosophy and to brainstorm about problems and strategies for change.
Registration
We are asking all conference participants to pay a registration fee ($50 for faculty; $25 for students) and a $35 banquet fee for the (optional) conference dinner on Saturday evening. Registration is required for admission to all conference sessions, apart from the Friday evening keynote panel and gala reception noted above. In addition to conference admission, the registration fee covers lunches on Friday and Saturday (October 23 and 24), beverages and snacks throughout the conference, and the opening reception on Thursday (October 22).
Online registration closed on October 19. If you have not yet registered, please plan to register at the conference. Note that we can accept only checks/cash at the registration desk.
The on-site registration and information desk will be available as follows:

Please feel free to drop in before the opening keynote panel for coffee and tea.

A/V directions for presenters
Powerpoint projectors will be available in all the conference presentation rooms. If you plan to use Powerpoint slides, please bring your file on a USB port drive (thumb drive) and plan to load it onto the computer in your presentation room during the break before the session starts. If you are a MAC user, please bring your own laptop and dongle, and plan to do your set up during the break as well. If you need any other type of A/V support, please let us know immediately (if you haven't already) in an email to conf25@uw.edu.
Local arrangements
Blocks of rooms have been reserved at four hotels within walking distance of campus. They are available at conference rates until September 21; ask for the "Hypatia room block." The details are available through the "Accommodations" link above. Reserve a room soon! October 22-24 is UW Homecoming Weekend so there will be a great deal of pressure on local hotels.
