The Instituto Cervantes is a worldwide non-profit organization created by Spain in 1991 to promote and teach the Spanish language and to spread the culture of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries.

Today it is the largest organization in the world dedicated to do this and has more than seventy centers throughout the world.

The Aula Cervantes, on the campus of the University of Washington in Seattle, offers a rich selection of teaching programs, such as preparation for the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE), Spanish Virtual Classroom (AVE), and other training courses aimed to both students and professionals.

Working in conjunction with the Division of Spanish and Portuguese Studies and other governmental institutions, such as the Center for Spanish Studies from Education Ministry of Spain, the Instituto Cervantes in Seattle serves as an antenna and franchise of the Cervantes Institute in the State of Washington and the State of Oregon. Synchronizing efforts with the New York head offices, its mission is focused on offering assistance to all educational institutions in order to successfully utilize its tools.
