Program strengths
Faculty: Daily rounds with outstanding clinical faculty with national and international reputations in pediatric infectious diseases. An outstanding clinical microbiology department, with hands-on training from experienced technicians and leading researchers.
Resources: The resources of Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center (CHRMC- www.seattlechildrens.org), which draws patients from five states. This includes a patient population with immunodeficiencies, both inherited and acquired, post-operative complications, and a large number of recipients of bone marrow and solid organ transplants. The patient base and training resources of the University of Washington, Harborview Medical Center and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Conferences: Clinical conferences shared with the University of Washington adult Infectious Diseases Program
Flexibility: Trainees can tailor the clinical training program to enable them to best coordinate their clinical and research training schedule and interests. For example, fellows studying tuberculosis may include clinical time at the King County Tuberculosis Clinic, and fellows studying HIV may spend more than the required 6 months in HIV clinic.
