Dr. Lewis has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He has 8 years of experience as a research investigator in both academic and industrial settings. His expertise includes experimental research in acoustics, optics, sonoluminescence, hearing perception in fish, the physiological effects of ultrasound energy exposure, respiratory dynamics, diving physiology, detection of bubbles, ultrasound enhanced drug delivery and ultrasound mediated gene therapy. He has been a senior research engineer at the Instrument Development Laboratory since 2001.


Dr. Lewis oversees the day to day operation of IDL. He performs feasibility studies on project requests from MRDDRC Research Affiliates to determine what commercial equipment is available that might satisfy the research needs. He tests new equipment to determine whether the equipment meets the MRDDRC research needs and installs and tests systems.
