Industrial Engineering

Academic Programs

The UW Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering offers degrees for both graduates and undergraduates, with robust programs for B.S.I.E., M.S.I.E., and Ph.D. degrees to prepare students for successful careers in our dynamic field. The department also co-sponsors a five-year academic program with the UW Business School that leads to two degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. Students complete the usual B.S.I.E. degree requirements with one exception: the B.S.I.E. technical elective requirement is replaced with M.B.A. elective courses.

IE faculty excel in teaching and research across numerous specialty areas, including engineering design, human factors, virtual reality, engineering education, large-scale assembly, manufacturing, optimization, quality and reliability, supply chain management, and system integration. Adjunct professors from Civil & Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health, Management Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Technical Communication, along with national and international visiting scholars, enhance the departments teaching and research efforts.
