Admission Info
UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION
The first two years of the curriculum include pre-engineering courses, basic mathematics, natural science, engineering science, humanities and social science. The industrial engineering curriculum focuses on system integration and methods to analyze, design, and improve manufacturing and service systems. The last two years are devoted to studies in the professional industrial engineering program such as: operations research, including optimization and stochastic models, manufacturing engineering, production planning and plant layout, human factors and human interface technology, statistics and design of experiments, quality and reliability engineering, and a comprehensive senior design experience.
Once admitted to the program, students are held to maintaining minimum requirements as outlined in the I.E. Undergraduate Continuation Policy.
Admission Requirements:
Students must apply for admission to the Industrial Engineering Program. Admission to the department is competitive, and completion of the requirements does not guarantee admission. All students who meet the minimum admission requirements will be considered for admission, however the Industrial Engineering department realizes that a diverse student body adds an important element to the education of all students in the program. All applicants have the right to petition and appeal the decision of the department.
There are three categories of admission groups, as detailed below: Freshman Admission: designed specifically for students applying to the UW as Freshman. Early Admission (as early as the end of the freshman year): designed for UW students who have not completed all of the required prerequisites for admission, but have the MATH series completed, one ENGLISH course, and at least ten credits of the Natural Sciences. Upper Division Admission: designed for UW and Transfer students who have completed ALL of the required prerequisites for admission.

| Funding |
We automatically consider all MSIE and PhD applicants for funding, however we are not able to fund each student in our program. Funding is typically awarded in the form of Teaching and Research Assistantships, fellowships, or tuition waivers. The number of these positions varies from year to year and depends on funding through grants and contracts. Appointment to an assistantship or fellowship position is contingent upon admission of the student to the Graduate School. Acceptance by the Graduate School does not imply financial assistance. To aid in our funding decisions, please complete the following Teaching Assistant application and send it to our department with your admission materials: http://testbot.ieng.washington.edu/ie/academic/ta.pdf. For more information about funding opportunities, please see the Graduate School website at: http://www.grad.washington.edu/fellow/funding.htm. ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY FEBRUARY 1ST IF YOU WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN ASSISTANTSHIP OR FELLOWSHIP. If you have any questions, please contact the Academic Counselor at ieadvise@u.washington.edu. |
