Before connecting your laptop to the network, please ensure that: - You have installed all security patches through Windows Update
- Windows XP's firewall is enabled or you are running another software firewall
- You have an antivirus program that has current definition files

An IE computer account is required to log on to departmental computers. Instructions on how to set up an account can be found in the computer lab. If you encounter problems setting up an account, please email help@engr.washington.edu.
Each account is provided with network storage space (the U: drive) that is accessible on all IE computers. This personal storage space is also accessible from anywhere remotely via SSH file transfer. Just connect to ieng.washington.edu (SSH FTP software is provided in the UWICK kit)
