WELCOME TO IGRSS

The Institute for Global and Regional Security Studies promotes teaching, research, publication and public outreach at the University of Washington on security issues of regional and global concern to the United States.

In this its first year of operation, the 2000-2001 academic year, IGRSS began to build institutional alliances inside and outside the University of Washington.  This was made possible by funding from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. IGRSS is attempting to foster mutually beneficial contacts between scientist-practitioners at PNNL, academics at the UW, and experts from other national and international organizations.

September 11th and the subsequent events have served to reinforce our purpose at IGRSS to educate the public, students and faculty in security matters. A better understanding of the causes, effects and responses to security issues here in the US and abroad has become a vital necessity for us all.  It has often been said that the world has changed since September 11.  We hope that the resources provided here will help explain some of those changes and inform your responses to them.
