IHOP ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. IHOP Orientation will take place in Seattle May 21st-22nd.

2. IHOP participants will be giving a 10-minute power-point presentation during orientation focusing on the country to which they are traveling or their summer research project.

3. The annual Tumaini Fundraiser will be held on May 6th, 2005 in Seattle after Humor in Medicine.

Description


IHOP was designed by the UWSOM International Health Group for students between their first and second years of medical school at the University of Washington. IHOP includes intense clinical and public health training. Funding for these opportunities is provided by the Puget Sound Partners for Global Health.

Objectives

  1. To provide quality international health experiences for UWSOM students including practicing medicine in a resource poor setting, public health training and cross-cultural exposure.
  2. To develop long-term relationships with international sites.
  3. To provide site support including journals, textbooks, computers and other equipment.

Eligibility

  1. You must be a first year medical student at the University of Washington.
  2. You must have a long-term commitment to working with underserved populations worldwide.

  1. Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi, Ghana
  2. MGR Medical University, Chennai, India
  3. University of Nairobi, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Pumwani Maternity Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya
  4. Clinica de Salud Publica "Barton del Callao", Instituto de Ciencias Neurologicas and Instituto Materno-Perinatal, Lima, Peru

IHOP 2005 Orientation: May 21st-22nd, 2005 Seattle, Washington

IHOP participants are required to participate in an orientation session, to be held on May 21st-22nd, 2005 in Seattle, Washington.

Reimbursement for WWAMI students traveling to Seattle will be provided. Please contact Daren Wade for reimbursements. Please make travel arrangements ASAP. WWAMI students should plan to arrive in Seattle on Friday evening May 20th. Housing will be provided for WWAMI students.

IHOP participants are required to give a 10-minute power-point presenation to IHOP coordinators, participants and faculty. Please see instructions for further information about the presentation. Please contact Sarah Toner for any questions regarding this assignment.

Tumaini Fundraiser

The Annual IHG fundraiser will be held in Seattle, WA on May 6th, 2005 directly following Humor in Medicine. This fundraiser is traditionally organized my members of the first year Seattle UWSOM class to raise money for HIV-positive patients in Nairobi, Kenya. Please contact Blaire Burman and Rachel Bender for more information or to get involved.
