A PERSONAL TRAINER IS JUST WHAT YOU NEED!

Personal Training Works

MikeDavidChris
KimSandi

Personal training is one-on-one instruction that incorporates exercise screening, goal-setting, and health education. Following a fitness consultation, the trainer will design a challenging workout routine specifically designed for each individual's needs. Your personal trainer is there to instruct you on proper lifting techniques, introduce you to exercises that target your specific goals, and motivate you towards your full potential.

Am I eligible for Personal Training?

How early do I need to register?

Background: I have been involved in sports and fitness for several years. I initially started as a coach and then moved into personal training. My coaching experience includes Ultimate Frisbee at Indiana University. I've also worked with endurance athletes and was the lead exercise physiologist at a physician-managed obesity clinic.

I can help people meet various fitness goals, including increasing strength, losing weight and improving sports performance. With a philosophy rooted in fundamental strength training principles, I emphasize functional training and the development of core strength. My background in distance running proves my firm belief in cardiovascular conditioning and improving performance through controlled progression of exercise as well as developing the necessary underlying strength to avoid injury. As a former team captain and coach, I have experience designing speed and agility workouts to improve sports performance.

Education: M.S. Exercise Physiology, Indiana University; B.A. U.S. History, Indiana University

Certifications: Health/Fitness Instructor (HFI), American College of Sports Medicine;
USA Track and Field Coach, Level 1

Specialties: Functional Training, Strength Training, Endurance Sports, Team Sports, Cardiovascular Conditioning, Special Populations

Devon Jones

Devon Jones

Background: I have worked as a personal trainer since February 2000. While pursuing a Master’s degree at Southern Illinois University, I served an internship in the cardiac rehabilitation unit at St. Mary’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Currently, I work at Northwest Hospital’s Cardiac Fitness Center in Seattle as a Fitness Assistant within their Cardiac Rehabilitation team.

I have worked with clients of different ages and levels of fitness, including elderly and high risk populations. The part of my job that I find most rewarding is seeing my clients not only improve their fitness, but also gain self confidence as their bodies change. I believe that all health and fitness is rooted in proper foundation of core strength and muscular flexibility. These two traits allow people to more fully develop and maintain other fitness traits such as cardiorespiratory power and muscular strength.

When I’m not a work, I’m interested in running, music, history, and travel. Health and fitness are good things, but they are a means to living the best life you can for yourself. Fitness should allow you to do more, to try more new things, and to have more experiences that make your life worthwhile.

Education: B.A. Philosophy, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

Certifications: Health/Fitness Instructor (HFI), American College of Sports Medicine; Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), National Strength & Conditioning Association

Specialties: Functional Training, Strength Training, Endurance Sports, Team Sports, Cardiovascular Conditioning, Special Populations

Background: Consistent exercise has a profound impact on our quality of life. Whether your focus is on weight management, improving sport performance or increasing your daily activity, I can help you meet your goal. As a collegiate basketball player and team captain for Concordia University in Wisconsin, I directed and coached youth sports and specialized in fitness programs for children for more than seven years. In addition, I have conducted metabolic testing for clinical research and implemented post-rehabilitation programs for physical therapy patients as an aide. I love a challenge, and I’m determined to find a creative way to make exercise a permanent life-habit for everyone. Balance, flexibility, strength and cardiovascular training are the focus of training.

My personal interests including coaching and playing basketball for the Washington Athletic Club, training for marathons, spending time on the beach and a great night of karaoke!

Education: B.S. Exercise Physiology, Minors in Health and Coaching, Concordia University (Wisconsin)

Background: I have worked with a broad clientele. My professional experience includes several years assisting at a physical therapy clinic designing functional trainings programs. I have trained adult professional athletes, most notably Milwaukee Brewers baseball players and Milwaukee Bucks basketball players. I’ve also worked with high school athletes competing in baseball and volleyball. I welcome the opportunity to work with weekend warriors or people with busy schedules who need a fast, yet challenging, exercise routine.

In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors. While living in Arizona, I led mountain biking and hiking tours in the desert. I competitively raced cross-country mountain bikes in New York and Arizona, and completed a 24-hour mountain bike race for REI in Moab, Utah. I enjoy football, having been a defensive back for a Division III college.

Look as good as you feel; feel as good as you look.

Background: Through coaching, teaching and training, I have worked with a broad range of clientele. My experience varies from working in rehabilitation and medically-managed obesity clinics to working with high-level endurance athletes as a collegiate rowing coach. Having worked in a range of training environments, I fully appreciate the importance of individualized training design. My first job as a trainer and coach is to understand the specific needs of my client or athlete, then to design a unique exercise program around those individual needs. I welcome the opportunity to work with any level of athlete, from beginners of all ages who want to become comfortable and confident in the fitness center, to experienced athletes who are aiming to elevate their performance to the next level. My free time is spent outside rowing, coaching, running or playing in the mountains. Once I’ve worn myself out, I’ll be inside enjoying a good book.

Sanatan Golden

Sanatan Golden

Background: I became a fitness professional in 1999, following my interests in improving the performance of team-sports athletes. My pursuit of developing better speed, quickness, agility and explosive power led me to create the Total Neuromuscular Training (TNT) Academy, a successful multi sport training program in Portland, OR. Since my start, my clientele has expanded to include athletes and individuals wanting to achieve personal health and fitness goals. Recently I have been working with post injury/rehab clients and those with unique physical needs. My bottom line is this: “No matter where you may fall on the physical spectrum, I just love seeing clients improve.” My workouts have three points of focus: technique, variety and education. Technique ensures that we actually work towards our goals. Variety not only stimulates that mind, body and spirit, but allows for optimal progress. Education permits my clients to learn the tools to achieve a lifetime of fitness. I like to create informed and independent exercisers who know what to do and why.

My personal interests include 10 years of elite Ultimate, and competing at National and World Championships. If I’m not studying for my classes, you can find with my outrigger canoe racing team, biking on the Burke, or playing hoops at the IMA.

Shawn O'Connell

Shawn O'Connell

Background: I started training 1997 while in the military, and was assigned to work with those who were unable to pass their physical exams. After completing my service, I continued to personal train at various settings, including a hospital, physical therapy clinic and the Woodinville Athletic Club. I have experience in geriatrics from working at a local hospital, and have helped people transition from sports injuries to exercise while working at a physical therapy clinic. My greatest success was training a middle-aged woman who lost 65 pounds, while battling Hodgkin’s disease. She not only beat the disease, she also kept the weight off.

I enjoy incorporating the use of bands and stability exercises to provide a non-traditional workout, while training in different plans of motion. I provide a workout that is fun, challenging and always evolving so clients stay motivated and continue to progress.

My personal interests include surfing, snowboarding and trying to keep up with my dog on the hiking trails.

Education: B.A. History, University of Washington; Doctor of Physical Therapy Student, University of Washington
