Background: Client education is one of my primary goals as a personal trainer. I draw on over ten years of combined experience as a physical education instructor, running coach, personal trainer, and yoga teacher to help my clients understand how they can best set and meet their fitness goals. I emphasize practical, balanced programs that will foster independence and overall health in my clients.
As a student of Physical Therapy here at the University of Washington, I am furthering my expertise of biomechanics and physiology, especially as they apply to special populations. Although this is an intensive program, I still find the time for salsa dancing, exploring Seattle’s large parks, patio gardening and running. While at CSUF, I was a scholarship athlete in cross country and track.
Education: Doctor of Physical Therapy student, University of Washington; B.S. Kinesiology, California State University Fresno
Specialties: Special Populations, Weight Management, Lifestyle Education, Flexibility Training, Posture
Background: I like to think of myself as a healthy realist—I believe you can be healthy and still enjoy the “good” things in life. This philosophy is passed on to my clients by working closely together with your fitness goals in mind. We will explore your lifestyle history in order to customize a plan to help you accomplish and exceed your wellness goals. Realistic goals that meet your needs and lifestyle will help you realize that being fit and healthy can be accomplished through enjoying diverse activities and thoughtful nutritional choices. From this you will achieve a healthy lifestyle as well as a healthy mind, body and spirit.
I have worked in the fitness industry over 20 years and have enjoyed working with a diverse population, from athletes, adolescents and active older individuals. I like to help people open themselves up to the possibilities that their bodies hold, and am passionate about working with clients that may be struggling with weight, musculoskeletal issues and tight joints.
My own experiences are grounded in the world of athletics and have lead to my interest in training others. I have competed in gymnastics, downhill skiing, water skiing and volleyball. At this time, I find myself enjoying outdoor and recreational activities. My healthy realism allows me to juggle all aspects of life.
Education: B.S. Exercise Physiology, B.A. Dietetics, California State University
Specialties: Special Populations, Weight Management, Lifestyle Education, Flexibility Training, Posture
Background: I have worked as a personal trainer since February 2000. While pursuing a Master’s degree at Southern Illinois University, I served an internship in the cardiac rehabilitation unit at St. Mary’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Currently, I work at Northwest Hospital’s Cardiac Fitness Center in Seattle as a Fitness Assistant within their Cardiac Rehabilitation team.
I have worked with clients of different ages and levels of fitness, including elderly and high risk populations. The part of my job that I find most rewarding is seeing my clients not only improve their fitness, but also gain self confidence as their bodies change. I believe that all health and fitness is rooted in proper foundation of core strength and muscular flexibility. These two traits allow people to more fully develop and maintain other fitness traits such as cardiorespiratory power and muscular strength.
When I’m not a work, I’m interested in running, music, history, and travel. Health and fitness are good things, but they are a means to living the best life you can for yourself. Fitness should allow you to do more, to try more new things, and to have more experiences that make your life worthwhile.
Education: B.A. Philosophy, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Certifications: Health/Fitness Instructor (HFI), American College of Sports Medicine; Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), National Strength & Conditioning Association
Specialties: Functional Training, Strength Training, Endurance Sports, Team Sports, Cardiovascular Conditioning, Special Populations
Background: Every person is different, and what works for one may not work for another, but what we all have in common is the ability to reach our goals through hard, smart training and determination. For the past two years, I've pushed many of my clients past what they believed were their physical limits. I believe in intense training programs that are rich in variety, and that challenge not only the muscles and the cardiovascular system, but also the link between the mind and the body. Having trained in boxing, I often implement aspects of the sport into my training sessions, including focus mitt and heavy bag work. I have yet to meet a person who doesn't love to get a great workout by throwing some punches and relieving some stress.
In my spare time, I love to stay active through various sports like trail running and boxing. I also enjoy playing the piano and listening to a wide-range of music.
Education: B.A. English & World Literature, Pitzer College
Certifications: Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), National Strength & Conditioning Association
Specialties: Functional Training, Core Training, Sport-Specific Training, Power & Speed Enhancement, Cardiovascular Conditioning
Background: I have worked with a broad clientele. My professional experience includes several years assisting at a physical therapy clinic designing functional trainings programs. I have trained adult professional athletes, most notably Milwaukee Brewers baseball players and Milwaukee Bucks basketball players. I’ve also worked with high school athletes competing in baseball and volleyball. I welcome the opportunity to work with weekend warriors or people with busy schedules who need a fast, yet challenging, exercise routine.
In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors. While living in Arizona, I led mountain biking and hiking tours in the desert. I competitively raced cross-country mountain bikes in New York and Arizona, and completed a 24-hour mountain bike race for REI in Moab, Utah. I enjoy football, having been a defensive back for a Division III college.
Look as good as you feel; feel as good as you look.
