Sorters
BD FACS Aria
13* Color High speed 4-way Sorter
This is our newest instrument. The FACS Aria combines the sensitivity of a digital bench-top analyzer with the functionality of a high precision sorter. Improvements in fluidics and optics have allowed for higher speed sorting (25,000 events/sec at 70psi using a 70um nozzle) with less stress on the sorted cells and enhanced overall sensitivity. The system uses fiber optic guided solid state 488nm, 635nm and 407nm diode lasers along with fiber guided emission collections (* Currently, five colors plus scatter off the 488nm, two colors off the 635nm line and 2 off the 407nm line. As more dyes are developed the instrument has the ability to expand to accommodate more colors for each of the laser lines.). Automatic compensation improves the reproducibility of data by mathematically calculating spectral overlap. See Aria Sample Prep for information on what controls are needed and a guide to optimize samples for sorting. The sorter is equipped with an aerosol management system designed to decrease the risk of operating in a jet air sorting system. (This DOES NOT imply that human infectious materials are permitted in the facility. Any unscreened human samples or pathogen containing samples need to be fixed (see Policies). A digital instrument using FACSDiva software.

BD FACS Vantage SE
6 Color High Speed Sorter
Currently equipped with Lyt200-S solid state 488nm laser, and a HeNe 633nm laser. The sorter is configured to collect in a variety of tubes and plates. The system is routinely run with a 70um tip, which accommodates most cell types as long as they are prepared properly in a single cell suspension (see Protocols). If cells larger than 25um are to be sorted, it is advisable to sign up for the Aria and request the 100um nozzle. The sorter is equipped with an aerosol management system designed to decrease the risk of operating in a jet air sorting system. (This DOES NOT imply that human infectious materials are permitted in the facility. Any unscreened human samples or pathogen containing samples need to be fixed (see Policies). An analog instrument using Cell Quest software.
