IRL members provide clinical service and educational training for staff, residents and fellows at:

University of Washington Medical Center
Seattle Childrens Hospital
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance

The Physics Research Cost Center provide support and services for research and clinical projects using ionizing radiation in medical imaging. These projects and service are primarily in nuclear medicine, PET/CT, SPECT/CT and preclinical imaging. Services include, but are not limited to:

Scanner calibration and maintenance
ACR accreditation and annual scanner testing
Medical image access, storage, and retrieval for research studies
Medical image analysis
Preclinical (small animal) PET scanning for research studies
Troubleshooting / consulting
Biological parameter modeling

For more information about these services, please contact Paul Kinahan, Director of the IRL

Members in the IRL also actively support several local and national activities, including:

SNMMI Dose Optimization
Radiation dose for all nuclear medicine and molecular imaging procedures should be optimized so that the patient receives the smallest possible amount of radiopharmaceutical that will provide the appropriate diagnostic information.

Pediatric Injected Activity Tool
Hosted on SNMMI.org for viewing recommendations for pediatric injected activity for nuclear medicine procedures.

Western Regional Society of Nuclear Medicine
Provides an annual scientific and continuing education program to 2,000 physicians, scientists, technologists, pharmacists and commercial vendors encompassing 12 western states and the four western Canadian Provinces.

Image Gently
An initiative of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging to promote radiation protection in the imaging of children.

Image Wisely
A campaign to lower the amount of radiation used in medically necessary imaging studies and eliminating unnecessary procedures.

Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance
An initiative to advance quantitative medical imaging and the use of imaging biomarkers in clinical trials and clinical practice by engaging researchers, healthcare professionals and industry.

American College of Radiology Imaging Network
An organization with interests in diagnostic imaging and image-guided treatment dedicated to organizing and conducting clinical trials and other studies to improve patient care.

Quantitative Imaging Network
A network to promote research and development of quantitative imaging methods for the measurement of tumor response to therapies in clinical trial settings, with the overall goal of facilitating clinical decision making

The IEEE-NPSS Nuclear Medical and Imaging Sciences Council
The NMISTC has oversight of the Medical Imaging Conference component of the annual IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium & Medical Imaging Conference.

The American Association of Physicists in Medicine
A society to promote the application of physics to medicine and biology, encourage interest and training in medical physics and related fields.
