Rita M. Mangione-Smith, MD, MPH

Rita is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington, Investigator in the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at the Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Health Services at the University of Washington School of Public Health.

Rita’s current projects include the evaluation of quality improvement interventions related to physician-parent communication, antibiotic prescribing, asthma care, and the inpatient management of medically complex children. Rita also serves on the editorial board for Annals of Family Medicine and is a reviewer for many leading pediatric journals. Rita received her MD from Wayne State University in 1991, her MPH in epidemiology from UCLA in 1997, and completed her research training in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at UCLA in 1997. She was a member of the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at UCLA for eight years before moving to the University of Washington in 2005.

She is also a mother of two wonderful sons and enjoys experimental cooking and traveling with her family in her free time.
