Stem Cell Course Schedule

PATH 501

University of Washington School of Medicine - 1 Credit - Spring 2009

Pro-Seminar: Adult Stem Cells
Instructor: Morayma Reyes

The objective of this course is to teach the students the skills necessary to develop analytical thinking in science. Students will be introduced to classic techniques in the adult stem cell research and breakthrough scientific reports will be discussed to illustrate how these techniques have been used to advance the adult stem cell field.

Each student will review one scientific report from an ample list of selected manuscripts representing many areas in adult stem cells (hematopoietic stem cells, epithelial stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, satellite cells, etc). Students will discuss their review in an oral and written presentation. The discussions should follow a peer review process style focusing on appropriateness of experimental design, interpretation of the results and conclusions.
