COMMENTS FROM WEB PAGE:

Good day! Thank you very much for sharing the article "The SCERTS Model. A Transactional, Family-Centered Approach to Enhancing Communication and Socioemotional Abilities of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder." I am Girlie C. Guangko, a licensed occupational therapist here in Cebu City, Philippines. I have long been researching for a comprehensive program that would address the needs of children with ASD and their families. I work in a preschool – Kids' World Child Development Center – with inclusion program. I try my best to mainstream my patients into the regular classroom as this is the goal of their parents. As such, communication and socioemotional abilities are really regarded as among the most important abilities that they should attain. I can attest to what the article has mentioned that approaches geared towards enhancing these abilities vary greatly and that it can confuse both caregivers and professionals alike. Most OT's do one-on-one home-based or school-based therapy sessions incorporating sensory integration with behavior programs from ABA books authored by Catherine Maurice. Therefore, there is a great need for a comprehensive education/ treatment model. The SCERTS model has shed light into this matter. Thank you once again. I'll be looking forward to more articles that will further promote early intervention as not too many in the Philippines are aware of this. If you can share more information on workshops/ trainings/ scholarship programs, please do. More power to ISEI!
Truly yours,
Girlie C. Guangko, OTRP #64 7th st. San Antonio Village, Apas Cebu City, Philippines
