COMMENTS FROM WEB PAGE:

Dear colleague,
I really appriciated your article as it focuses on those myths - which also we as professionals are following. Working both - practically in terms of early diagnosis and scientifically in terms of evaluation of Early Intervention programs I recognized that I was also following some of the myths you mention. Thank you for your great work

Finding your article was like an answer to prayer! I am the parent of a 17 year old son who has Down Syndrome, and I am the Assistive Technology Specialist for my county in Maryland. As a professional I have heard all the myths and have had many lively arguments with my peers, who often disagree with me,especially those who were trained as SLPs more than 15 years ago. As a parent of a child with a significant developmental disablity who is impacted dramatically by langauge limitations, I have known in my heart that all the time that my husband and I have spent working to have AAC infused into our son's life has been worth every minute. We started very early, at about 9 months and although most of our choices have been on the low tech end, it has made his life much richer, and has international merit, in that our son was able to converse with various people who speak Spanish German and French using his handy AAC wallet as we traveled through Europe!

Thank you for re-affirming my beliefs and backing it up with research. I plan to share your article with everyone I work with
