COMMENT FROM WEB PAGE WITH LINDA WATSON'S REPLY FOLLOWING (IN CAPS):

I felt that this article did a wonderful job of bringing everyone up to date on our current understanding of this group of children. It was helpful in sorting out the some of the differences that need to be looked at when considering this diagnosis from other developmental concerns. Particularly helpful was the information that looked at features typically associated with autism that don't manifest themselves at this young age. Thank you for this wonderful synopsis.

THANK YOU FOR LETTING US KNOW YOU FOUND THE ARTICLE USEFUL. THERE IS MUCH CURRENT RESEARCH RELATED TO INFANTS AND TODDLERS AT RISK FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS THAT WILL FURTHER ENHANCE OUR ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THESE CHILDREN AT YOUNGER AGES AND PROVIDE APPROPRIATE INTERVENTION FOR
THEM. UNDOUBTEDLY IN A FEW YEARS THERE WILL BE A NEED TO UPDATE THE INFORMATION IN OUR ARTICLE IN ORDER TO INCORPORATE NEW KNOWLEDGE THAT WILL BE RELEVANT TO EARLY INTERVENTION PRACTITIONERS. NEVERTHELESS, WE ALREADY HAVE A BODY OF KNOWLEDGE THAT CAN INFORM OUR EFFORTS TO IMPROVE SERVICES FOR THE YOUNGEST CHILDREN WITH AUTISM AND THEIR FAMILIES. TO THIS END, WE LOOK FORWARD TO ONGOING INTERACTIONS AMONG RESEARCHERS, PRACTITIONERS, AND PARENTS ABOUT HOW BEST TO APPLY WHAT WE KNOW.
