Overview
The Public Health major introduces undergraduates to public health issues such as emerging infectious diseases, chronic diseases, access to health care and modes of health care delivery, the geography of health, and the effects of environment on health and disease. Students also learn about the tools medical researchers use to understand the biological mechanism of disease and the modes of disease spread, prevention, and cure.
How to Apply
Public Health is a competitive admission major, accepting applications in autumn, winter, and spring quarters. To apply, you must be a current UW student with at least 45 credits earned and a minimum 2.5 UW GPA. Learn more by attending an information session or contacting an adviser.
- Fill out the application.
- Write in the courses you have taken or intend to take.
- Provide a title for your major. If you propose a title other than "Public Health" (e.g., International Health), you must include a rationale for doing so, and your coursework must be appropriate to the topic.
- Attach a statement of learning objectives.
- Drop off your application in 171 Mary Gates Hall by the 4th Friday of the quarter.
- Admission decisions will be made by the 6th Friday of the quarter.
