Greenhouse Studies Page

This part of the web site contains data collected from dermal exposure experiments we conducted in a greenhouse. There were three sets of volunteers:

Transplanters and children performed their tasks in a 8'x8' soil bed that was prepared by using 6"x6" landscaping timbers and lined with a plastic tarp before placement of soil. For the adult pipe-layers, the bed was deepened by adding a second row of timbers and additional soil was added.

Pre- and post-activity gravimetric soil loading data for adult pipe-layers and children playing are posted for review and download at this site. Links to images that illustrate various aspects of the greenhouse studies as well as the abstract of a journal article prepared by our lab are also included below.
