Jumpstart paired with the Denise Louie Education Center's 4th annual Children & Families Festival on Saturday, May 30th 2009 from 1-4pm.
The Children & Families Festival is a community celebration that features live entertainment, a multi-cultural lunch buffet, community resource fair, family parade, children's activities and much more.
Volunteers worked with children at learning activity stations during the event and helped children play and learn through reading, playdoh, book making, and other creative stations.
As part of the Barnes and Noble Book Fair, Jumpstart hosted Children's Storytimes on Saturday and Sunday, November 8th & 9th 2008.

Jumpstart hosted Saturday Morning Storytimes for Preschoolers and Kindergarteners at the Northeast Branch Public Library every other week.
Volunteers read children's stories, lead group songs, and help preschool-aged children with fun, open-ended craft activities.
Storytimes for the Fall are October 18th, November 1st, and November 15th.
Please contact Kristy Hogue at jstartvc@u.washington.edu for more information about volunteering for storytimes.
This year Jumpstart partnered with the Carlson Center at UW, the United Way Foundation, and our preschool classrooms to host multiple service events on MLK Day, January 19th, 2009.
Volunteer projects included disinfecting classroom toys and making classrooms safer places to learn and play in. There will potentially be other service projects with community organizations that also promote early childhood literacy and development.
Check back soon for more information, and contact Kristy Hogue at jstartvc@u.washington.edu if your organization would like to get involved.
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is a campaign designed to bring attention to the importance of early education. By encouraging hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the same book on the same day, Jumpstart aims to break a world record and to make early education a national priority.
With the help of numerous volunteers, Jumpstart Seattle at UW was able to participate in helping to break the world record! 3 classrooms with over 50 children attended a Read for the Record event on the UW campus to read Corduroy and to participate in literacy activites. A special thanks go out to all our preschool partners and volunteers!
On May 10, 2008, over 20 Jumpstart Corps members traveled to White Center to help with the annual Spring Clean.
Corps members helped paint a mural, sorted baby clothes, and landscaped the
parking lot for Westside Baby, an organization that assists low-income families and children with clothing, toys, baby gear, and other needed items.

In January of 2008 Jumpstart Seattle at UW collaborated with the University Bookstore, UW Business and Economic and Development Center, The Center for Experiential Learning at UW, and Elegant Nail Salon to collect new and used children's books. In addition, the University Village Barnes and Noble donated a percentage of sales on Sunday, January 20th and Monday, January 21st to Jumpstart Seattle.
Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, we were able to donate 5 books to each of the 13 preschool classrooms we work with in Seattle!
In the winter of 2007, Jumpstart Seattle collaborated with Operation Warm to give 250 coats to low-income preschool children in need. With the generous help of numerous volunteers, Operation Warm, and Jumpstart's read for the Record campaign, we were able to give brand-new winter coats, "The Story of Ferdinand" Children's Book, and literacy kits to children in Jumpstart classrooms during the week of December 3-December 7th!
