John currently works as an instructor in the Teacher Education Program and the Danforth Educational Leadership Program at the University of Washington. He has been involved in Danforth summer sessions since the program began. He also works in leadership training with the UW K-12 Institute and does a range of consulting across the country, including current facilitation in the Courage to Teach Program. John began his career as a counselor and worked as a principal at Dearborn Park, Whitworth, and Hawthorne Elementary schools in Seattle. He has also taught in the Seattle School District’s leadership academy, providing in-service for practicing principals.
