Spencer is currently serving as Director of Cohort 23 of the Danforth Educational Leadership Program. He has worked in the field of education for over thirty years, first as a teacher of Social Studies, Spanish and Leadership in three Washington school districts, and later as a high school principal and central office administrator in the Bellevue School District. He has worked in various roles with the Danforth program since 2000, and has also served as a Project Director with the Center for Educational Leadership. In addition to coordinating this year’s Danforth experience, Spencer teaches the Moral and Political Dimensions of Educational Leadership module, parts of the series of Danforth modules devoted to Instructional Leadership, and the Reflective Seminar. His research interests include effective school leadership preparation programs, successful instructional leadership practices for school and district leaders, and ethical and strategic leadership that promotes positive, caring and high-performing civic cultures. Spencer is a graduate of the Danforth program, and earned his doctorate from the University of Washington’s Leadership for Learning program.
